LGLL Zero Tolerance Umpire Policy
Los Gatos Little League is committed to providing every participant with a positive baseball experience. The fabric of youth participation in a sports league is held together by good sportsmanship and the mutual respect for everyone involved. To ensure the quality of our program and the safety of all participants, we will enforce the following Zero Tolerance Umpire Policy:
For Managers and Coaches
The only time managers/coaches can interact with an umpire is to do the following:
Participate in the pre-game plate meeting.
Point out any emergencies.
Ask what the call is if the manager/coach did not hear it
Respond to the umpire, if addressed.
Thank them after the game.
No other manager/coach initiated interaction with an umpire is acceptable.
No disputing calls during or after the game.
No criticism, sarcasm, harassment, intimidation, or feedback of any kind during or after the game.
Do not approach an umpire at any point during or after the game to "educate" them on what you think the correct call was.
Do not approach the other manager to discuss any calls.
At no point should any adult (coach or parent) yell "strike", "ball", "foul ball", "out", "safe", etc from the field or stands.
Be careful with your body language in response to an unfavorable call. The kids are following your lead.
The Umpire's call is final and the game shall proceed as normal.
If a Manager feels that the wrong call was made or a call was missed by an Umpire, please follow this process:
Make note of the situation and inning.
Fill out and submit the Umpire Feedback Form. Due to a cooling off period, the form cannot be submitted until the day after the game.
League leadership will review the video footage from the camera mounted above home plate. If deemed necessary, a video clip will be created and will be used as an educational tool for the Umpire.
Umpires are to report any violation to the Chief Umpire within 24 hours using the provided Feedback Form.
A manager/coach's first offense will incur not only be expelled from the current game, but an additional one-game suspension.
A manager/coach's second offense will incur an additional three-game suspension.
A manager/coach's third offense will incur a lifetime ban from coaching in LGLL.
