Umpire Information

Welcome to the Umpires page for Los Gatos Little League

Los Gatos Little League depends on adult volunteer and youth umpires to officiate baseball games.  For active players, umpiring can be a great way to enhance your understanding of the rules of baseball and how they are applied in game situations.  It is also a fun way to stay involved in baseball if you’re no longer playing.  The League’s umpires come from three categories:

1.     District Umpires:  Volunteer umpires that have been officially certified and/or trained by Little League International.

2.     Adult Umpires:  Persons over 21 who have successfully completed an umpire training clinic such as the Western Region Outreach Umpire Clinic (see below for more information) or equivalent.  Adult umpires perform without reimbursement.

3.     Youth Umpires:  Full or part time students, 20 years old or younger who have completed the umpire training conducted by Los Gatos Little League or equivalent.  Youth umpires do get compensated for their time or receive community service hours/credits.

CALLING ALL YOUTH UMPIRES!

Dear Los Gatos Little League Families,

We hope you are looking forward to the 2025 season! As we prepare for another great year of baseball, we’re excited to offer young athletes ages 11 and up the opportunity to become youth umpires for our league.

Why become a youth umpire?Umpiring is a fantastic way for kids to stay involved in the game they love, learn valuable leadership skills, and earn some extra spending money. Whether they are new to umpiring or returning for another season, it’s a rewarding experience that helps develop confidence, decision-making, and communication skills.

Umpire TrainingOur annual Youth Umpire Training will be held on the morning ofSunday, February 2nd, with exact times to be shared soon. This session is mandatory for all new and returning umpires. It’s a great opportunity to learn the rules of the game, review proper mechanics, and get prepared for the season ahead. We are aware that this may conflict with other youth sports and will work to keep the timing to the AM hours to avoid afternoon conflicts.

How to Sign UpIf your child is interested in umpiring this season, please complete the registration form linked below.Even if your child is a returning umpire, we ask that you fill out the form again this year. This helps us ensure we have accurate contact and availability information for all our umpires.

Adult Umpires

It is a little-known fact that virtually all adult umpires used for Little League baseball in Los Gatos (and everywhere around the world) are volunteers.  Los Gatos Little League and District 12 staff umpires will provide each adult umpire with thorough training and direction in advance of your first game.

Umpires are great role models for the children and a great way to volunteer locally in the community, so please sign up today to partner with our youth umpires!

We always need eager adult umpires, especially for our Juniors and Majors games, where game management is of the utmost importance due to the higher level of competition.  Our adult umpires love the thrill of having “the best seat in the house” to watch some great baseball, and they enjoy the challenge of making the right call…quickly, confidently and decisively.

If you are interested in becoming an adult umpire and either have experience or have not done so in the past, please complete an Adult Umpire Application.  You must also complete a Little League International approved Volunteer Application and pass a background check.

All umpires must attend mandatory training prior to their first game.
