Opening Day Changes

Opening Day Changes

LGLL Parents -

Mother Nature has not been a baseball fan so far in 2023. Our team of volunteers has done their best to get in practices and games despite the weather, but the upcoming atmospheric river will cause further issues to scheduling. I know many of you have questions about the official start of the season and after considerable discussion here is our plan:

Summary

Opening Day should be a celebration of the baseball community to bring people together and jointly kick off the season. With the current weather forecast, we don't believe it's possible to have a positive experience on Saturday morning as we normally would and are restructuring the day in advance. We have a ton of logistics that have already been planned and an opportunity to get a couple completed in a dry and efficient manner.

Saturday, March 11th Plan

The Opening Day Ceremony at 8am is canceled due to weather.
Bounce houses are canceled due to safety reasons.

Photo Day will still happen but will be moved indoors to the Blossom Hill Elementary Multi-Purpose Room (located closest to the Single A field and passthrough gate). Teams will be prepped/staged in MPR and take photos just outside the doors

LGLL Gear will be available for sale in multi-purpose roomas well. Saturday, will be the primary, and likely only, way to purchase LGLL Gear until playoffs.

  1. Our vendor will print sweatshirts, tee shirts, dri fit shirts on site. Use the time before, during, and after your player takes their photo to size, print, and purchase your 2023 gear.

(For our coaches/managers) fingerprinting will also still happen in the MPR from 12:30-3:30pm. Please reach out to Ben Swartley if you need a form.

We will evaluate another day in the future to celebrate as a baseball community.

Majors and AAA games will most likely be canceled due to field conditions but official ruling will not be made until day of in case there are fields or pockets of times that can be used. TBall, A, AA, Intermediate and Juniors fields tolerate water better than Balzer and Baggerly and could be potentially played on.

Thank you to all of our coaches for their hard work and flexibility to take advantage of any dry moments to have practice for our kids. And thank you in advance to all of you for your patience as we head into another 10 days of wet weather. Moving forward please expect changes to your practice calendars and game schedules as we reschedule everything we can. This can mean back to back games and games on Sundays to get us caught back up.

Thank you and be safe -
