A's Jump to Early Lead to Defeat Cubs

The A’s first four batters scored to give the team an early lead en route to a 6-2 victory over the Cubs in an elimination game. 

Chase Frolich punctuated the first inning scoring with a ground-rule double to center field in the first to drive in Ben Holland. Timmy McNeil and Jacob Tibbetts also had multi-hit games for the A’s. 

Frolich also earned the win on the mound, pitching three strong innings, giving up one run. The A’s used four pitchers to hold the Cubs to two hits total. Jacob Tibbetts came into the game in the fourth with the bases loaded and two outs, and struck out a batter to end the inning. Timmy McNeil pitched a scoreless sixth to earn the save.

Skyler Levine led the game off for the Cubs with a triple to left field and scored on a sac fly by TJ Lombardi. Joseph Willey also had a hit and scored a run.

John Ecklund and Jimmy Mort pitched for the Cubs. After the first inning, they held the A’s to two runs for the rest of the game, including 2 1/3 scoreless by Mort. 

The A’s will face the Giants on May 27th in the Losers Bracket final at Baggerly Field
